| | | Wily TROY CARROLL -- two times Supercross Masters series champion -- called on all his experience to tough out a superb win over much younger rivals in the Brisbane staging of M2R SUPERCROSS MASTERS 2007.
Carroll, Cool Air Suzuki, was unbeaten through his lead-up rides but had to really grind out his Final victory over Motorex KTM's RYAN "DOGGY" MARMONT and another old-hand in Kiwi DARYL HURLEY (Shift Motul Suzuki).
Tearaway leader in the 20-Lap decider was hole-shotting MATT MOSS who steered his CDR Yamaha rocketship through an untroubled 12 laps at the head of a white hot freight train.
But Carroll had grafted his way past both Hurly and Marmont, aboard the KTM 450F for his first supercross.
Then the Toowoomba veteran zeroed in on Moss... and was relentless.
Matt had not made one mistake but was carrying a shoulder problem from last week's WA motocross and proved easy prey for Carroll.
A block pass virtually ended the night for Moss and Carroll proceeded without opposition to the chequered flag ahead of Marmont and Hurley who was competing in his third country in three weekends.
Yamaha bids farewell to Mossy who just could not pull off his final supercross ride for the blue team... and further disappointment came with the blow to CHEYNE BOYD in a freak mishap.
Boydie bounded back from a harmless tumble in his opening ride. But a clod of dirt had jammed under his throttle cable; the bike took off wrenching out his shoulder.
The Lites encounter brought about a shock with the all-the-way win of 16-year-old LAWSON BOPPING who returned the faith put in him by his Shift Motul Suzuki team.
Bopping had to struggle in his preliminaries but gave nobody a look into the Final, leading home Queensland's Serco Yamaha pilot FORD DALE and ADAM MONEA (Cool Air Suzuki).
Tye Simmonds and Shaun Redhead took Junior honours.
The event marked 20 proud years of SUPERCROSS MASTERS at the popular Brisbane Entertainment Centre and included a wowing freestyle display from MATT SCHUBRING and JOEL BALCHIN.
