|
| | | After years of shadow dwelling, Ryan Marmont emerges as lead rider for the KTM factory team at M2R SUPERCROSS MASTERS, Brisbane Entertainment Centre on October 6.
Marmont will ride the 450cc machine in Pro Open class… his first supercross appearance in Opens and a forerunner to KTM’s 2008 plans.
And while Marmont has dominated the Lites ranks over the past two years – two Australian supercross titles and a motocross crown – he has performed less onerous duties than elder brother Jay Marmont.
But Jay’s defection to Craig Dack’s CDR Yamaha squad has provided the key for the elevation to lead rider of Ryan.
Motorex KTM team manager Ross McWatters had no hesitation in overseeing the promotion.
“Injuries aside, Ryan has won every title he has contested in the Lites over the past two seasons,” McWatters says.
“He’s more than ready for the Open class. Until now we had a balanced team with Jay handling the Open chores.”
Ryan is returning to action after knee surgery disrupted his 2007 season. But he has now been back on bikes for more than a month and enjoyed a hit-out at the Canberra stadium motocross on September 22.
Another Canberra entrant heading to Brisbane is Matt Moss – 50 percent of the racing Moss twins – for his last Yamaha commitment after a long engagement on the blue bikes.
Moss was one of the few riders to take a round of the motocross championship from the dominant Dan Reardon.
Moss is heading to Suzuki for 2008; he is determined to bow out with major honours in Brisbane.
All local factory teams are gearing up for life after Dan Reardon; his departure for the US means anyone of a handful of riders can be new king. And Brisbane will be an occasion for enforcing claims.
Supercross Masters celebrates a 20 year milestone at Brisbane Entertainment Centre… it’s 1987 staging was one of the prestige venue’s first attractions.
Last year’s event played to a full house and advance tickets are now available through Ticketek outlets, online www.ticketek.com.au or phone 13 28 49.
Ticket prices range from ADULT $30 and JUNIOR $20. The meeting starts at 6.30pm.
